Our team

CITÉS is an emerging research team within the Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health (Irset) in Rennes. Our team is dedicated to environmental health in the context of climate change, with a particular focus on environmental justice issues. Our main objective is to produce knowledge that enables a better understanding and mitigation of the health impacts of climate change, taking into account social and territorial health inequalities.

The team draws on a community-based approach to health, founded on the active participation of non-traditional research stakeholders (local authorities, public agencies, associations, field professionals, and residents) at the local, regional, and national levels. This approach aims to co-develop knowledge and solutions tailored to specific regions, closely aligned with the needs of populations and public decision-makers.

CITÉS‘ work is organized around several complementary themes:

  1. etiological research on climate-sensitive risk factors (heat, air pollution, extreme weather events, etc.);
  2. the development and evaluation of climate change adaptation measures;
  3. analysis of the health impacts of public policies and urban development;
  4. methodological developments in environmental epidemiology and statistics.

CITÉS takes an interdisciplinary approach to the links between climate change, territories, and health inequalities, drawing on public health, epidemiology, statistics, environmental sciences, urban planning, behavioral sciences, and health psychology. The team’s ambition is to produce robust, useful, and transferable knowledge on climate-health risks, to evaluate the effectiveness of climate change adaptation and mitigation policies and strategies, to support public decision-makers, and to strengthen knowledge transfer at the science-policy-society interface, in order to contribute to the promotion of healthier, fairer, and more resilient environments.
